5. Principal’s Remarks:
Colonial Day is new for 5th grade: will spend a whole day doing colonial activities, teachers will dress up and students encouraged to; NED show coming (yoyo show about bullying and is free as long as we sell Yoyos);
GT universal screener for 2nd grade (district wide initiative) – if students have already qualified, they will not be tested again. The other grade level testing will follow (beginning of November)
Team leaders sent field trip: 1st grade idea: (giving dewberry to preK) would like to go to the Aquarium, but it is $11 per student ($1 more than usual budget) – PTO says they can move forward with that.
District is allowing teachers to wear Astro attire anytime Astros are playing, so the students can join the staff
Champ Bucks items have come in; ready to launch – would like to have PTO parents help sort the items in the cart, decide the price of each item, best way to get the item to the students – champ bucks at recess took too much time – need to finalize final details on how to launch
Last meeting a parent donated LLI reading kit – Mrs. Early is already training Mrs. Dading and will start pulling guided reading groups with this new kit! It would be wonderful to have every teacher in the primary grades be LLI trained. It is a very specific and individualized program – encouraging teachers to write grants to receive more LLI ktis.
7. Committee Reports
· Program Development –upcoming spirit nights and dates Mallory: spring creek will send more aprons because we have more volunteers. $178.97 Ramble Creek; $206 Papa Johns; Iron Cross, determining the best way to have parents sign up for this event – Mallory is coordinating and will start promoting a digital PDF – needs to be tweaked (Ms. Viado can send it out in weekly newsletter); February April and May need to be finalized, but has the places picked out. Need volunteers for Iron Cross to get pied in the face 😊 PNO will be 7:00-11:00 (dinner provided)
· Hospitality – plan for the year, dates of events – Erica not here – no update currently except we will try to throw in some monthly goodies for the teachers to show appreciation
· Membership – Membership update – Dominga – no considerable updates (the bulk of our membership comes in at the beginning of the year – we can do a contest per classes to get more to sign up)
· Sponsorship – sponsor update – no update from Danielle, but if anyone knows any company that would like to sponsor, please reach out.
· Yearbook – upcoming help needs – no update
· BBE Dads: designed the shirt if anyone wants to purchase – take flyers home for the men in your life that would be a great, positive male role model.
· Masterpiece Art – Upcoming help needs, status of volunteers – no update right now
· Junior Achievement – Project start date, status of volunteers – 5 volunteers signed up – we can start anytime: the earlier the better. Teachers like it best to be done before STAAR season.
8. New Business
Red Ribbon week we will need parents to take pictures for yearbook – need to make a sign up
International Multi-cultural Event request from parent – we are looking to do it in March 10 or 24 – might pair it with Open House – give enough time for parents to volunteer and plan. Might not be able to be a fundraiser as PTO is only allowed so many fundraisers a year. Parent is very ready to help sponsor with this event
What day will fundraiser cakes arrive at school so can be delivered before families travel – will double check
9. Adjourn 7:24 pm
