5. Principal’s Remarks
Discussing experiences with CHAMP Buck stores instead of little toys – trying to motivate the older kids – ask the students what will motivate them. CHAMP bucks store is once a month.
Boosterthon: typically students go during outclass, but now bc they have obstacles, booster was asking if we wanted to block 2 grades at a time – ms viado does not like this idea; if it starts to rain, we have to move everything indoors and they can not move all inflatables into gym. We are going to plan for each grade level to have their own time and if there is bad weather forecasted, we can change to 2 grades at a time.
This Friday: dental assembly for upper grades by Nurse Lynn
March 2nd: Spring Picture Day
March 1st: 5th grade trip to Sartartia MS 9-11
March 3rd: curriculum committee is planning vocabulary parade for around the school again – have parents spread out
March 7th: 5th grade STAAR interim Science Test (school stays open) lets kids see how test is done online; already did math and ELAR – teachers can communicate scores to kids and parents. Teachers are using it as a data point. Shorter than actual STAAR, and easier. Covers everything – some things have not been taught so don’t focus on the score. Will use to plan intervention and what to re-teach.
March 10th: 4th grade “talk” at 10:30 for girls; 5th grade girls 11:15; 5th grade boys at 2:30
Monthly PTO treats ideas: We love our teachers: table with everything red; Lets Taco about how super you are: crock pots of taco soup with all the fixings; We cerealsly love you with a cereal bar.
District cutting 70% of school budget soon
PTO providing King Cake on Mardi Gras
6. Committee Reports
· Field Day – update on plans – had a meeting on Monday with Coach Arieola to get the ball rolling – will run the same as it always has – wanting to start earlier to ask parents to bring tents for kids to be able to wait under during the day and also giant jugs for kids to refill waters outside – will provide a lunch for volunteers
· Program Development –upcoming spirit nights and dates – try to get parents to order ahead of time so they can be prepared at Fajita Petes
· Ways & Means –plans for upcoming fundraiser: Boosterthon – kick off March 20th; pledging will open 2 weeks in advance – we get credit for the population registering early – we will have incentives to motivate kids to sign up before. Boosterthon team will be there every day of kick off week. The run will be on the 28th.
· Hospitality – plan for upcoming events; King Cakes on February 21st; looking at doing moon pies the first week of march bc it is a full moon that week (for teachers)
· Yearbook – upcoming help needs: Sierra will do themes instead of actual characters with Disney – keep submitting photos – will input class pages after Spring picture day – will need list of NHS and Student Council and Ambassadors as they do their own page
· Masterpiece Art – progress update – Volunteers for most of the classes – might need a few more
· Junior Achievement – progress update – no new updates – more parents reached out, however the classes they wanted to volunteer already had volunteers. So we still need 14 more volunteers. – Ms. Viado will have teachers send out letter to their class parents.
8. New Business
· Multicultural event update: So far we have 24 different countries/cultures represented; a few performances; meeting on the 15th about guidelines – food can not be homemade – can only give food to an adult
· Drafting Parent Volunteer Guidelines: PTO and Ms. Viado will work it out
· STAAR window: 4/18 – ELA 3 and 4 4/19: 5th ELA 4/20 Make up day (if absent on day of test, student has to take it on make up day) – parent concern about Ramadan Fasting -school will work with those students
· Parent asked if they can pay to say “we will miss you” on marquee for a student moving. ; We are going to see if we can get PTO access to be able to run the marquee; if so, we can make a menu of choices for the marquee
· Nominating Committee Volunteers (need 3) – help find new people for open positions – the board can amend the bylaws. Will do the amending soon.
· President, Vice President, secretary, and Financial officer have to be filled.
9. Adjourn: 10:35
